So Many Things!

Berkeley, Friday, October 9, 2026 9:21 PM

A heads up to any reader, if any: Those are zero drafts. I write without a grammar or spelling checker. This is in a tool called focus mode. Which actually is good, but the background is white on my side. It should be black. That is a limitation.

A further explanation, likely a justification. Those are speed firing of thoughts into this plausible findable available journal. At many times it is about observations. At times is about discharging things. At times is about warming up for writing. Sometimes is about reflections, and or maybe softcomplains. John McPhee has a book called Draft N°4. It is on my daily reading list, next, and might be soon. I am not so many pages away to finish the book chapter Los Angeles Against The Mountains. Just checked with a colleague how distracting can be my powerful strocking on the keyboard. I got an answer. But how to reduce the noise then.

Reduce the intensity? Write on notebooks?

Around the 1950s or 60s, or who knows when, C.S. Lewis had an advice of keep writing. Write, write, write more on your notebooks. Do not discard them. Keep them in a drawer. You might revisit them. He publish several novels. A magnificant thinker and writer.

Back to McPhee, well his title might imply that not the first draft is publishable. Schimel said that first drafts are garbage. No one reads them. And this and all drafts here, are quasi zero drafts. There are a few, which I have checked again. Very few, and corrected a word or two.

Ok. Not a justification. A heads up to errors and typos you can find here, on my second language of my mother tongue, which is a great name, regarless where a child is born.

Also, I recall things from memory, that is part of the excerise of writing here. Otherwise, one would be asking a.i. to produce hallucinations, and generate text, for a user, where the text never crosses his or her brain?

Ha! transfer based large language models, are good. They are a powerful tool. But the user must know how to guide the tool and for what purposes. After one setting up those models, one can place so many restrictions, for instance on [ok. A distraction, or a timely call, that they library will close soon, and so, I will wrap up this which has been more about a heads up].

I was saying one can set up the model with what ones for code editing, or fact checking, or might language checking, but also one competes later against the rules once had say the model to not do. i.e. reading or writing or map checking. etc.

Also, I might use a word or so in Spanish when I write here, if I do not recall the right or close word in English. I would hate to leave the platform to read a reference. That is what zero drafts are about. In a second draft, which does not happens here, but it might happens elsewhere, and a third draft, and more drafts, I can leave the main text, check the references, reorganize things, check the outline and so on. Moving things around is complicated though, because one can create repetations. It has happened to me. Then full cleaning takes time which might overlap with deadlines.

Dead lines. I learned, and that was from a reference in Claude actually, a few days ago, that dead line was line were prisioners were about to be shot. That was circa 1856. Check facts. The story can be wrong. I am recalling things from my memory. So particularly the years can be wrong.

But now I have on my wall calendar a guy with a big stick on top of the month letter, while I am running with papers on a vital sign line approaching a fork of more life to next month versus out of pocked expenses.

Life is good!

Oh, by the way I designed the idea and the calendar, but Claude helped me with the illustarations. Details.

A friend has the link to this. He can read this as needed.

Other things.

Yesterday, a cool hang out at Tap Haus. Something like that? Is haus the German word for house? Or is it just a phonetic creative name? By the way English is a germanic, anglo saxon language? Right? Will see the future of Californio language? Would see.

Top dog is an interesting libertarian space. They might live up to their philosophy and have a well establish place on what to do in Berkeley on the evening, of a Thursday or other day. As kips, or the Frozen yogurt. Berkeley has its uniques, in a different way and safety, which might be comparable to what Calle Large used to have years ago in Cuenca. Who knows how is now? It is a unique thing, but rarely something would beat the Grotten Market, right name, or Grotten Plaza, in Leuven? Forgot the name now. But unioversity towns have this unique spaces of social no pressure gathering serving the flocks of temporal local populations who live concentrated within one space area.

A friend mentioned a few things, I am not sure if those are all correct though. Might be Kellogs transit interchange. But one can learn taller interchanges in places in the world. Some in China. Some in Los Angeles. Some in the Bay Area. I usually get worried of any crash situation, or get in tension, with changing lanes in those interchanges. Oakland I think has many right? What about the McArthur maze, which collapsed around 2008? correct, after a crash to a gas tank truck. It burned. It took about a month to repair? That would be a quick repair. Still calling things from memory.

But I need to make more time for reading, conversation, with friends, writing, modeling, and more.

Teaching as well, at some day.

Might be Pomona, the university there, is at the former Kellog’s Ranch?

Who knowns now. It is something to check the facts. But it is interesting to learn about the gigantic ranches that were in California, i.e. Irvine, where UC Irvine is located, or the one from the Peralta family wherer the cities from San Jose up to El Cerrito are located, and more accurately for his four sons where the cities of San Leandro, from San Lorenzo Creek north to El Cerrito Creek are located. Check the facts. Then get more or less the story right.

Well this is something to discharge things from the mind. There are more. But I also have to leave the library, do more modeling, write, reply correspondance. Just not to say all the details!
