Santa Clara Visit

Brief post. More to deposit some words in here.

There is an annoying sound coming from the restroom though. It is like water would be flowing through the upper part of the toilet and draining to it. But that might not be. Might be someone else is using water at this time. At the sound is through the pipes. Or it might the be system itself.

Well, this area is unfamiliar to me. It is different from Berkeley, different from San Francisco, I would say, based on the extremely short visit, some parts might be like Mountain View. But I do not know.

Mission Santa Clara although it is beautiful. And several parts of the campus are great. I think Mission Santa Clara was built or founded in 1772? Check that? I do not check things in those zero drafts. I do not have the grammar checker or the spelling checker on. The background of this application blog should allow me to write into a black background.

That is something I would change.

Ok. I lost that thought. I have started my English, and learned lessons in chatGPT and Claude, and at Gemini Notebooks. So, I will see some lessons learned from this. Also, it is a matter of how strategic be in the use of those tools. One trains as well them on what to evaluate.

But the cook knows how to understand the ingredients. And the process of cooking, even better if with someone else is good. One might enjoy a final product of things. But mainly if one works, one must defend every word. That is a territory I have not navigated yet. But I have been using for assessing my models, building them, and for assessing my English communication. But in concrete I assessed there one abstract so far, with a back and forth, after testing ideas with co-author, and writing also a first draft. Also, the triming is another thing that an author does himself or herself. But the English usage and the fact checking, and errors are a useful thing to test in the most advanced tool of trained transfer based large language models, than in the now limited grammar and spell checker. But ideas are on the brain.

Ok. Well regardless. I spotted briefly today, well, yesterday, Guadalupe River, Coyote Creek. I might see tomorrow, or at least I know now of the existence of Saint Tomas Aquino Creek. Well, it seems that there is a Barron Creek, Los Troncos Creek, etc. I love that we might care about them. I of course care about the stoneflies hidden under the stones in the creek bed. And if they are there, and the mayflies, and caddisflies are there, we as society might have recover a healthy ecosystem. We might be doing well in health as well, if they are there. There is a correlation. Study that one day. As well as stream corridors, and who uses them, and who lives them

Yes, I was talking today about the social factor of stream restoration, which have their unique context in sevaral creeks in the Bay Area and in Reno.

Another interesting part, is the actual possibilities to do restauration, might need of a region with high resources.

Of course, I saw the East Bay Hills and all their drainages and large creeks, such as the San Leandro, and San Lorenzo Creek. I, surely, (don’t call me Shirley, if you watch the Airpline!), missed naming a few creeks. But the thought sticked. And is refreshing to see the vegation, to learn how to identify the riparian area, even from afar. We must emphasizing that all those mountains grow, in this area, and of course drain.

With lesss rainfall, and less frequency of high rainfall, storms wash plenty of drebris, which have been building up from the fractured rocks of the San Gabriel mountains, in east Los Angeles. Those debirs partularly after wildfires. Chaparral might become a fire hazard after they are ten years old. Please check that. And correct on your own. But keep the idea. A heavy storm will flush all those debris. That might happen once in fifteen years or so. Climate is not static. It might be more frequently with changes of climate and magnitude of storms. The time could be different if there are extended droughts in between, which might be building up more debris though. But once a heavy storm converted into runoff would flush everything that finds in its way. That is a sort of debris flow. It has happened several times near La Crecenta. With plenty of debris coming from the San Gabriel moutains draining canyons. Such as Shields Canyon, amoung others. It has happen in places that barely rains. I am calling from memory the debris flow and mud flow in Lima 2017. Fact check man!

Oh I see. I learned about the distraction free tools at the side of this text editor, which hide the essential seetings for publication, such as category and hides the top toolbar. But wordpress, please allow an option to make this white background black.

So far the best text editor for quite things, save instructions, for me, has been TextMate. It has a great logo as well. Very versatile. But also my vim trials are behind, as well as I have not getting into Fortran beyond very limited commands I learned 22 years ago or so. I should have taken that more serioursly. But then I learned Matlab, at the time, and then by my own. I was ok on that, but have programmed a few things, which I am do have enjoyed them, and are close to my heart. For the most complicated things 20 years ago, I have asked help. I should do that more. I have learned Tex and LaTex mainly. But it has been years since the common use in my daily life. But I do enjoy it.
