Rocks

A brief thought, and although incomplete, and expanded from continuing reading McPhee in the BART and as night reading. Also I still have quite a bit of pages of keep going on this book, which is great, but I might start thinking on the next book, or probably another chapter from the control of nature!

In recent days, everyone who has tuned into news or have any contact other individual, which is an interesting word choice to describe a person, might have been aware of earthquakes, mainly in South America and of the debris flood mainly in Nepal, but the Trishuli river, I think is somehow at the border between Nepal and China.

Ok. One thought. Not related to these floods and earthquakes though. But related to ingredients of a debris flood.

Again, not specifically related to those events. Although, a bit with the flood, because of the landslide fall into the glaciar.

Often, when I think of earthquakes, in my mind, and field evidence have been the checking of trizaduras, creeping, breaking of land, opening of soil, small displacement, though significant over time of the main channel of a creek etc. Despite the some notices on the landscape that I see when in the field, and checking things, although I do not specifically study earthquakes per say, at least not in deep. Also, some of my training, at some point in my life, was on structures, so the focus was on see the human constructions, if they would resist a seismic event in an specific earthquake magnitude forecasted for a specific area, according to a regional construction code. The missing ingredient of the huicos or debris flow, although I have seen or though about the topic scarcely in a different context, is that earthquakes fracture rocks. But they not only fracture, they break rocks. So, those now broken boulders, broken rocks, are there now available for a major rainfall event. which might end up on a debris flood or not. It is an accumulation of ingredients, now thinking on cooking, or of a major event. Huaicos and debris floods are not that frequent, at least in a major dimension, because not all the ingredients might be present there.

This might be trash. But just wanted to keep going on the rock fracturation, and make a note on that, before I get back to other writing.

John Steinbeck used to write a letter to his editor everyday, or frequently, I have not read yet the letters or the next book mentioned, while writing East of Eden. Talking about that, this good California, Armenian descent writer, from Fresno, I think his name is Matt Arax, who writes about water and about a few things more, I think has a book named West of Eden? [correction: West of the West after looking it up in something that up came up after arriving home] Not looking up anything online, neither the platform and screen and computer set up is good for doing that, which is great. But I might be doing the warm up writing, or just to put a word or something out there. I also had an OK, though rested night of sleep, but short, I did not put all the set up that I usually put on the windows. I just crashed or fell asleep. So lights from the streets and the ones that I left on the dining room, before falling asleep, infiltrated of course in the room. I heart once to fr. J.? that the ideal room darkness, not only for a good night of sleep, but for health as well, is when you even cannot see your hand.

Oh, the waving, and greeting, and saying hi, in this region is odd at many times, but that actually might be on me, as I also have adapted and likely owned.
