Christian Prayer: The Liturgy of the Hours

Berkeley, Sunday, February 8, 2026 7:32 PM

The goal, at this point of this post, is to have an ongoing post with a few quotations, probably as well, with a few reflections on the Liturgy of the hours.

I might use the H1 to H4 structure of this blog to move things along.

How to change to H1? Oh I see is on the paragraph.

Antiphons

How the antiphons are written? Are those extractions from the scripture? All of them?

God's word os alive; it strikes to the heart. It pierces more surely than a two-edged sword. (Antiphon 3. Common Pastors. Morning Prayer)
Why there is an (alleluia) at the end of each antiphon?
You are the light of the world; a city set on a hill cannot be hidden. (Antiphon 1. Common Pastors. Morning Prayer). [Which hill though. A second floor facing the street? A public screen? Acquired knowledge? Which light? Prayer? Truth? Errors?
Where brothers praise God together, there the Lord will shower his graces.
Now that you are well again, do not sin anymore, or something worse may happen to you.

Additional Notes

Encourage each other daily while it is still today (Hebrews 3:13)

Through the Word all things were made (John 1:3)

The heavenly Jerusalem is a free woman; she is our mother (Galatians 4:26).

This Jesus is the stone which, rejected by you builders, has become the chief stone supporting all the rest (Acts 4:11)

If you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15)

With your whole heart turn to God and he will blot out all your sins (Acts 3:19).

Psalms

"Lord, what is man that you care for him,
mortal man, that you keep him in mind,
man, who is merely a breath,
whose life fades like a show?" Psalm 144.
"... The stone which the builders rejected
has become the corner stone..." Psalm 118

Canticles

"... to whom you promised to multiply their offspring
like the starts of heaven,
or the sand on the shore of the sea" Daniel 3:.. Azariah's prayer in the furnace

Readings

"Rend your hearts, nor your garments,
and return to the Lord." Joel 2:..

Office of readings

OK. Well, the following is a beautiful reference laying out the office of readings. I will learn more about this, and see if I implement it together to the morning and evening prayers, and the actual eucharist attendance. The later one as possible on a daily basis.
