Blessed Mary Frances Schervier

Berkeley, December 9, 2025 12:23 PM

Feast day: December 15

Novena:

My understanding, so far, feel free to edit, is that Blessed Mary Frances Schervier was born to a distinguish family in Aachen, which is currently in Germany, near the border to the Netherlands and Belgium, I believe, and when she was born near the first quarter of the 1800s was ruled by Prussia.

In 1844, Blessed Mary Frances became a secular Franciscan Sister.

Soon after that she with four companions devoted their life to the mission Sister of the Poor of Saint Francis.

That organization or order expanded. The first one in the United States was founded in 1858.

Blessed Mary Frances Shervier visited the United States in 1863 and 1868. The first time was to help with nurses during the Civil War. In her second visit, she encouraged Philip Hoever in his path to establish the order (third order) of Brothers of Saint Francis of the Poor.
