Tolkien knowledge of several things is amazing. Particularly, his level of conciousnes.

And then how he can get into the details and knowledge of things.

I am reading now the appendices of the Lord of The Rings. In particular the calendars

For some calculations I used to use years of 365.25 days. The exact number, which came out within the three first lines of a NASA page in a Google search, on which I confirmed the titled of this post, used by Tolkien, is  365.2422 days.

My hydrology professor was quite precise then in using 365.25 days in our calculations.

I understand that several folks like simple things. i.e. banks use 360 for the interest rate.

I love the details. And that is one of the reasons I also admired that professor plenty. Probably, that is also one of the reasons why I enjoy reading Tolkien, and their disciplines of expertise are not connected.

Judge the balance between between level of detail knowledge and simplification.
