As a diversion of my attention, and because it is compulsory, but more because I have always cared about, next Sunday April 13, are the run-off presidential elections in Ecuador for the term May 2025 to May 2029. The problem?
While I have checked the news and now and then some politic opinion shows, I have been away from Ecuador about 9 years, and even 13 years if I do not count the year and a half that I was a back 10 years ago.
I believe that the government from President Correa was positive for Ecuador. It was evident the quality of life and public services, and communications improved in the country. Many things, I believe were taken more professional and seriously. And it was good in terms of education.
Of course, many aspects from the government term, I am not sure about the head, had been outrageous in terms of over pricing certain public works, plausible abusive of power, which in both cases are corruption.
From the news, the new strong figure who had brought clarity to this obscurity of misinformation with her role as a fiscal has been Dr. Diana Salazar. I do not much about her, but I honor her because of her work, courage, and even behind screens, since I do not know her in person, she looks quite trustworthy.
It is so hard to tell the truth. It has to be very hard to confront mafias.
I think this is quite a weak point from the Correismo to confront her. I do trust in her work, although I would need more exposition to it. As well as I trust in the work from Saquicela, who had a historic low vote in the first round of the elections. I voted then for Prof. Escalada, who seemed serious and committed to his work, and to the country. But there are a few parameters I try to evaluate in limited time, beyond the dancing in TikTok and other platforms, which rather plays a role against my parameters of evaluation of a candidate.
Probably related, I condemn the current president invasion of the Embassy of Mexico in Quito. I think that rules and agreements are rules, and I do not have at least information that embassies in Ecuador have become an asylum of delinquents.
I am not sure about providing access to the USA to a new military basis in our country. I think that clearly defines the lack of independence and freedom, which we do not have much, at the end we do not have our own currency, but US dollars. But President Noboa is taking all the steps not as a US ally, but to be so dependent of the USA, which could easily become as a 21st century colony.
Yet, my vote is for Fiscal Salazar, who I learned ended her Fiscal term this week. This seems to be the first time I won’t vote green and blue in the decisive round since 2006. This time seems I will vote for Noboa.
